In one line

AlwaysOn desktops pay a fixed monthly rate. AutoStop pays a smaller monthly base fee plus hourly usage.

What gets missed

The monthly fee is pro-rated in the first month only, then charged in full even if nobody logs in. Flipping AutoStop to AlwaysOn mid-month overlaps both models, so AWS suggests doing it near month end.

Filter Cost Explorer or your Cost and Usage Report by these usage types. A usage type with no region prefix means us-east-1.
