Amazon EC2

  • Timebilled
  • Bytesbilled
  • Callsnot billed

In one line

Instance-seconds are the headline. EBS volumes and public IPv4 addresses ride along, and outbound bytes meter too.

What gets missed

An auto-assigned public IPv4 is released when you stop the instance, so that charge stops; an Elastic IP keeps billing until released. The EBS volume bills either way. Cross-AZ traffic is metered on both ends.

Find it on your bill

Filter Cost Explorer or your Cost and Usage Report by these usage types. A usage type with no region prefix means us-east-1.

  • BoxUsage
  • EBS:VolumeUsage.gp3
  • PublicIPv4:InUseAddress
  • DataTransfer-Out-Bytes
  • DataTransfer-Regional-Bytes

Bills the same way

These services turn exactly the same meters, so what you learn here transfers.
