What gets missed
The Core Network Edge is the expensive part and you need one in every Region the network reaches. It bills by the hour on its own, before a single attachment or byte, so an empty core network is not a free one.
Find it on your bill
Filter Cost Explorer or your Cost and Usage Report by these usage types. A usage type with no region prefix means us-east-1.
